Nadia and Carol

Nadia Comaneci, (born November 12th of November, 1961 Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej [now Onesti] Romania) Romanian gymnast who was the first gymnast in history to get a flawless score of 10 points in an Olympic event. Bela Karrolyi was an Romanian gymnastics teacher who later became Comaneci's coach, first discovered Comaneci when she was just six years old. Her first competition was at the national junior championships in 1969, finishing 13th. She was the winner in 1970. In her first international competition in 1972 at a pre-Olympic Junior meet for the communist-bloc countries she won three gold medals and in 1973 and 1974, she was an the all-around junior champion. When she competed for the first time in senior level, Lyudmila Turkishcheva, a Russian athlete, won five gold medals, as well being awarded a silver. She took home the American Cup in New York City in 1976 and became the first woman to perform a reverse double salto, which is an unmounting from uneven bars parallel to each other.
